Message of Vice President on the canonization of Mother Teresa

New Delhi
September 5, 2016

I rejoice the canonization of Mother Teresa by Pope Francis on September 4, 2016 at Vatican City.

The Missionaries of Charity, established by Mother Teresa in 1950, with the mission of caring for the poor, the sick and the uncared, continues its service to humanity, reaching out to the needy, regardless of their religion or social status. In recognition of Mother Teresa’s selfless and dedicated services, a grateful nation conferred on her India’s highest civilian award ‘Bharat Ratna’ in 1980.

The Mother’s message of love continues to inspire millions of people around the world. People of India are proud of the recognition being accorded to Mother Teresa for her service to humanity and God through this Canonization. May her example inspire all of us to dedicate ourselves to the service of the poor and marginalized in our country.
